Life presents us with opportunities in every moment. What we choose to do with those moments is up to us.

I am passionate about communication and particularly awkward, difficult or embarrassing communication, because in my view those are the conversations that are most in need of being had. Let’s face it, communication is both the source of great transformation or great unrest and most of us avoid the awkward ones.

There’s a lift I get into at work. I am on the 4th floor and I sometimes strike up conversation; ask a question or share something that’s on my mind.

Yesterday, I  asked three people what they considered their genius or main talent to be; the things they do with great easy and joy, that others can only marvel at.

A young man with a baseball cap said “I am really good at fixing things and seeing things as they are rather than as you want them to be.” An older woman said, “I am resilient and stop at nothing.” The final one, also an older woman said, “I make things happen! I am an extreme optimist.” I said mine was my ability to strike up and have interesting conversations with strangers.

On other occasions I have sung a song or shared a verse, and encouraged others to do the same.

Earlier this week I asked a group how 2019 had started. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck! Said one of them.

Life can be so interesting if we make it or are willing to see it.

Next time you are in a lift or a queue or somewhere stagnant, why not liven it up and ask a question, give a tip or sing a song.

You never know, you might find your partner, business partner or a graphic designer in the crowd?
