In a recent conversation with Cameron, the security manager at Astron, I was struck by his story about apologies. Cameron, a former member of the South African Police Service (SAPS), explained how he learned early on that apologising could have negative consequences. As a result, he developed a “hardline appearance and attitude” and never said sorry.
However, Cameron has recently come to realize that there is one person he is always willing to apologise to: his wife. He explained that if he ever apologises to her, it is always sincere and heartfelt.
Cameron used a simple example to illustrate his point. One day, he saw a heart-shaped potato and brought it home for his wife. He apologized to her for something he had done wrong, and she was grateful for his sincerity and remorse.
Cameron’s story teaches us two important lessons about apologies. If you have wronged someone, don’t be afraid to apologise. A sincere apology is a powerful way to heal relationships and build trust.
Mojestically yours!
